Free travel to women is provided by the Mahalakshmi scheme on Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) buses.

Speaking at the Telangana state legislative assembly and presenting the Budget for FY 2024-25, State Finance Minister said “The amount incurred by [TGS] RTC for providing free travel under this scheme is being reimbursed by the State Government on a monthly basis. This move has brought about a transformation as it is now one of our billion-dollar corporations.”
“Women from the State have made trips totaling 68,60,00,000 through their transportation scheme Mahalakshmi aboard TGSRTC buses and these trips have saved women Rs.2325.1 crore. The scheme has been greatly embraced by women in the state who are making rounds visiting various tourist destinations temples, friends’ places and relatives among other things using this free travel facility; indirectly contributing to the growth of the economy of the region,” he concluded.
