A tank lorry carrying septic waste fell into a canal at Uday Nagar in Punkunnam that is on the Sankarankulangara- Ayyanthole Karthyayani Temple road.
Some complaints have been made by residents here about unidentified people who dump human waste into the canal during night time.
On Thursday, residents led by ward councillor V. Athira kept overnight vigilance without seeing a tanker; they left home early morning due to heavy downpour in the area. But it was after their departure that the tanker came and discharged septic waste.
In police custody
The vehicle slipped off the road into the canal when its sides caved in. None of those who rode on the lorry had been hurt. Local inhabitants informed the police who then took over responsibility for it. Mayor M.K. Varghese and health standing committee chairman P.K.Shajan visited there.
Residents demanded strict action against those who were dumping human feces in this locality. The water quality test results from this area also indicate high levels of coliform bacteria.The region gets flooded heavily whenever it rains here.
