On August 29, 2012 American news headlines and reports focused on the funeral of Long Island resident Kenneth Pohlman who was killed whilst trying to defend his girlfriend from her ex-husband. Kenneth was buried in St Elizabeth’s Church, Melville. During the memorial service held, many Pohlman’s friends and relatives were present to pay their last tribute to the mourned 53-year-old man with three children.
According to reports, Pohlman was fatally injured on August 28 as he intervened in an act of violence between his girlfriend Kelly Coppola and her former husband, Daniel Coppola who shot them both at their residence at St James New York as per news reported by the New York Post.
At the service, tributes were made to Pohlman as a devoted husband and father, a sports enthusiast, and a man who perished in the line of duty for the sake of his loved one.

Authorities say Daniel Coppola broke into my home in St. James and shot my boyfriend and I, while we were partly unclothed. My boyfriend’s brother was at home when police went over the St. James’ house where 70-year-old Daniel lived, and they needed him to undergo a psychiatric evaluation because he had suicidal thoughts. He had no chance of release as bail was set to zero. Coppola, of course, pleaded guilty to the murders.
Family members claimed that Daniel Coppola had a history of abusing and being irrational toward his former spouse. And the man had a violent past and in a couple of letters he blamed Kelly for his being in debt to her, Michele apparently has drawn out her daughter of the house before so she would not stop him from then doing the mask. These actions have caused irreparable damage to both families.
Pohlman, a gym enthusiast
Tom, Pohlman’s brother who is on New Jersey remembered the lighthearted sarcasm surrounding his brother’s ‘I am in the gym’ routine which he maintained all through the limited time they were not together thanks to distance. He stated that he found out that Pohlman had been going to the gym seven days a week unlike his previous expectations.
Pohlman’s mother recites poem
Pohlman’s mother, Dorothy, read a poignant poem that examined her grief at losing her son. She commented about his affection towards the kids and how he was so proud of them. Dorothy grieved for the loss to death of her son, how her first baby boy turned daemonic and took her son away.
“Where do I begin? I have so many memories of you,” Dorothy continued as she looked at the poem. “Im sure that as many as they are, they will never supplant the winter in my hearts. All your children brought you such pride. You would lose yourself in the most beautiful of words when talking about them. Now, you have been taken away by a beast. All I want to do is scream.”
‘Soulmates’
Pohlman married his childhood sweetheart Kim and they had two children together, but she died of cancer in 2006. There were other women in his life and he had another daughter in 2009 but none of them including ‘his father’ Kenneth Sr. seems to have worked for him until Kelly came into his life. According to Kenneth Sr, Pohlman and Kelly were in love and not as boy friend and girl friend as they are commonly portrayed, they were literally “soulmates.”
John Patton father of Kelly has also indicated that his daughter was happy being in a relationship with Pohlman.
