Congress leader Rahul Gandhi won the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat with a margin of 3,64,422 votes more than Communist Party of India’s Annie Raja.
Gandhi received 6,47,445 votes while Raja was supported by 2,83,023 voters. BJP candidate K. Surendran stood third in position with 1,41,045 votes. With a record majority of 4,31,770 votes in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections Mr Gandhi could win from Wayanad.
However if he can achieve an unbelievable majority in his second term or not all eyes are on Gandhi. The contest is however tougher this time as LDF and NDA have scouted for stronger candidates after UDF leaders hoped for a five lakh majority.
In the parliamentary elections in India held on 23 May 2019 Rahul Gandhi obtained a large number of voters which was equal to 64.8% percentage while CPI’s P.P.Suneer secured second place with his garnered 25.2% percent.
This year Rahul Gandhi played his role as MP and national leader from one of the major parties to secure victory at the polls.
Annie Raja who is also a national leader of CPI did well during the campaign period but her hard work was not fruitful. Whether this decline on Raja’s numbers is due to influence from Rahul gandhi or anti-incumbency mood against CPM is another point of argument that needs further debate.
Rahul Gandhi equally recorded a landslide victory in Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareilly Lok Sabha constituency which raised questions among the UDF workers and voters about which constituency he will vacate soonest; should he leave Wayanad it would result into bye-elections there.
The third great contender whose appeal failed though BJP ’s vote share significantly increased was its state President K.Surendran.
BSP -1963 votes; Independent candidates Ajeeb Mohammed – 804; K.Praseetha-840; A.C.Sinoj-903; K.P.Satyhyan-1059; and P.K.Radshakrishnan-562. Nota -6999.
