On July 19, officials have said that bomb disposal squads have successfully defused a live grenade which was found on the rooftop of a government building in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.
Residents living in the government quarters where it was recovered became panicky and afraid following its discovery.
They said “some children discovered hand grenade while playing at the terrace of a Government quarter building near to Raja Sukhdev District hospital on July 18 and they shouted for help that attracted the attention of police.”
According to them, “a police team cordoned off the area for safety reasons to all residents and staff at this hospital due to fear of unsuccessful grenade attack from suspected terrorists.”
The police stated that “bomb disposal experts were called in to defuse the grenade and an investigation has been launched.” The police thought that someone threw it and ran away but it did not blow up.
“My kids kept saying there is something on top but when I went there I saw an object lying in one corner. My younger son told me he found it suspicious”, remarked Gulfam resident talking to journalists in Poonch.
“When he checked, I thought it belongs to electricity department because they were here during day time so I called them. However he asked me tell security guard as it was not his thing,” she added further.
She added that “The security guard told them that its bomb you need to call police”. She added that within half an hour, this woman informed us: ‘a deputy superintendent of police came along with a team and took away bomb from Poonch’.”
The police have advised people to be vigilant at all times by reporting any suspicious movements promptly to security agencies.
