Meghan Markle finds herself feeling let down with how her lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, is unable to keep the initial success it has. The brand was introduced in March with much excitement and it was expected to wow everyone with more items linked to the Duchess of Sussex’s life in Montecito, as the Mirror put it. Nevertheless, the enthusiasm has waned, especially after the first launch featuring strawberry jam did not receive much love from the public.
To start, Meghan notified the world about the launch of American Riviera Orchard and royal-watchers were perfectly put on the edge. The brand promised an array of high end goods ranging from classy table and drink wares to lavish edible items like jams and marmalades. Unfortunately, the excited mood changed to disappointment when the maiden offer that was a strawberry jam was widely derided.
Tom Quinn, a royal commentator was quoted in the Mirror saying that ‘the one fly in the ointment is Meghan’s new internet brand American Riviera Orchard’. He explained how the Duchess was in tears because the jam most people deemed as expensive the taste was not worth it at all and people laughed at it. There was a general backwards promotion of the offensive billboards because Meghan had bombed and embarrassed herself by sending out unwanted hampers with the jam to only a few bloggers. If anything, a real scandal was created around this product.
Quinn went on to add, “She is at the stage where every little thing she does, be it big or small, will inevitably attract some form of criticism. Just like her husband, she believes that people have targeted and are targeting her unjustly and thus cannot fathom why it is such a big deal that so many people do not appreciate her.” Meghan’s irritation gets worse because she realizes that most people or her critics make her the target blaming her plenty of riches and fancy items she enjoys, which to her is a sign of achievement and success rather than a negative.
Even if things have been rough from the onset, Meghan still has a hope that American Riviera Orchard would one day earn the respect that she had in her mind. The start goes in that direction of the second plank, the Duchess remains committed to the cause of her trademark, trying to make it break the negative shift in perception it was facing even from the start.
