There were incidents of landslides, over which many roads in Lambagad, Nandprayag, Sonala, and Barrage Kunj were blocked, due to heavy rain in Badrinath National Highway in September 14, 2024, Saturday.
Landside blocks the road of Sakot and Nandprayag like the second accessible way between Sakot and Nandprayag as well.
In other words, ‘Chamoli Police Hqrs, through its notice said that the road is closed and traffic services interrupted by landslides on roads connecting various places in the district (06-12-13 J). C. Because of the floods in the district, the Chimoli police are stopping travelers at safe locations to avoid any risk to them”.
Earlier, police on social network had said Kameda (Gauchar) Nandprayag and Chhinka blocked girdemma traffic on social network traffic in the area.
According to the police concerning the attributed Kameda( Gauchar) Nandprayag (Chamoli), and Chhinka (Chamoli) on social media: ‘In the district, Badrinath National Highway is visible China blocked Km areas’.
Later on they updated that the “Blocked road at Chhinka has been opened for Traffic.” The Chamoli police also added that the, “the blocked Badrinath National Highway near Kameda in the district has been opened for traffic”.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday (September 13, 2024) directed State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams and District Magistrates to be on high alert because of the heavy rains which have been experienced in different parts of Uttarakhand. He had also urged that the residents be advised against unnecessary movement at this time.
The India Meteorological Departments (IMD) has given some parts of southern Uttarakhand a red alert while warning orange alert in other districts. According to the IMD, the depression which was still at the region of north western Uttar Pradesh is forecasted to dissipate into low pressure area within the next twelve hours.
This weather system which has its centre approximately over Bareilly, will also give the additional benefit of ‘intense convection’ causing scattered clouds to form over southern Uttarakhand and parts of Uttar Pradesh. Northern Uttarakhand, eastern Rajasthan and parts of northwestern Madhya Pradesh are predicting ‘moderate to intense convection’ with rains and winds.
The IMD also stated that the storm is active and its radar systems in Delhi and Lucknow are tracking it, and the wind is blowing at a speed of 20 to 30 knots. The system should weaken as it moves towards the northeast region.
On the other hand, in Nainital district of Uttarakhand, incessant rains have led to road closure including Haldwani-Sitarganj road due to flooding in Shernala. Passersby have been asked to use different routes and refrain from traveling as the situation remains unfavourable.
