This is the reason why on Tuesday, August 13th (2024), four young medics, a departmental head and assistant superintendent, male-female nurses, group-d staff and security personnel of Kolkata were subpoenaed.
Four junior doctors have been summoned by Kolkata police to appear for questioning at Lalbazar headquarters on Tuesday 13th August in connection with the murder and rape of a second year postgraduate student in a government hospital last week.
Police sources have said that the doctors who had dinner with the deceased are not suspects but they have been called for questioning. “Four juniors who had dinner with her have been re-summoned,” they said.
They added that “Kolkata police also summoned today at Kolkata Police Headquarters in Lalbazar.” A female postgraduate trainee doctor was found raped and murdered inside R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata sparking widespread outrage and protests on August 9.
Earlier, three junior doctors and one house staffer were summoned by the Kolkata police in connection with the case. According to Kolkata Police sources, these junior doctors & house staff were on duty during the night of this incident.
Following this incident there has been an indefinite strike by medical practitioners as well as students from different hospitals across several states demanding justice for their colleague killed in cold blood. Ms Mamata Banerjee said yesterday (12 Aug) that she has asked the police to catch hold of those responsible for this murder at once; otherwise she will give it up to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) if necessary because she can’t afford any further delay.
