The Kerala government has waived off electricity dues to the tune of ₹272.2 crore of 18 public sector undertakings (PSUs) under the Industries department.
The outstanding electricity bills of the PSUs were waived off as part of the State government writing off the electricity duty that the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) owes the government. By waving off the long-term electricity bill arrears, the PSUs has been relieved from a huge liability.
Industries Minister P. Rajeeve said that the waiver of electricity dues was part of using all possible means to protect public sector institutions. The Minister also said this was the first time in history that such huge dues of public sector companies’ had been written off.
