The honourable Minister of Transport responded to a Calling Attention motion saying that the project was “not feasible” in numerous respects for the town.
Minister of Kerala, K.B. Ganesh Kumar, said constructing the proposed skywalk in Kottayam would be another waste of public money.
There was a calling attention motion raised by Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, MLA, Kerala Assembly on 26th June 2013 and the Minister replied it as “not feasible” for the town on several counts. The revised estimate of this project is around ₹17.85 crore.
In addition, need to knock down the structure when there are further developments in expanded town is imminent considering increasing numbers of cars among them. And also more land had to be acquired for the project and district administration refused to provide an undertaking regarding who would do this maintenance or shoulder recurring costs. It is not possible for Kerala Road Safety Authority to be responsible for its maintenance since it has no such mandate,” said the Minister.
Also, he mentioned that prior decisions were made concerning this scheme without forward thinking and therefore, “much public money has been wasted” on this account.
The skywalk project began when Mr.Radkrishnan was holding charge as Transport Minister.
Further inviting Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s attention toward redemption of the same; Radhakrishnan said so. In response to his plea, he said if Chief Minister wishes he is ready to give him all file related with this project.
