The Supreme Court on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, has enlarged the freedom of ‘Pulsar’ Suni, accused in the Kerala actor sexual assault case in the year 2017.
The Bench which granted the bail comprised Justice A.S. Oka and other Cabinet members.
‘Pulsar’ Suni, who bears the name Sunil N.S, has been behind bars for the last seven years. After the Kerala High Court denied him bail on June 3, he sought relief before the Supreme Court.
The bail plea had said that when the accuse’s mother was also undergoing medical treatment, he’s encumbered. Advocate Sriram Parakkat representing the case of ‘Pulsar’ Suni had said in the last 95 days only one prosecution witness was examined.
Last year in April the supreme court denied bail to ‘Pulsar’ Suni
Last year in august the supreme court had given time up to 31 March, 2024 to conclude the trial. Two previous deadlines issued by the supreme court i.e. 31st December 2022 and 31st July 2023 had already been missed for this trial.
The case of sexual violence had made the public angry. There have been demands from the women actors’ collective of the Kerala film industry for redressal and a thorough investigation of the exploitation. The State Government had formulated a committee under a retired Kerala High Court Judge, ‘Justice K Hema’ in the year 2017.
The expurgated report of the committee, released to the public on(ii) 19 August 2024, has been hotly debated in the light of the emergence of discrimination, sexual exploitation and favoritism in the film industry of the State.
