During Monday night in Rudraprayag district, a landslide rescue operation is taking place near Munkatiya between Sonprayag and Gaurikund on Monday on the Kedarnath National Highway, 10 September 2024.

On Tuesday, bodies of four more bodies of pilgrims were retrieved from Monday’s landslide incident along the Kedarnath route taking the death toll to five according to officials’ reports dated September 10, 2024.

Rudraprayag Police said more pilgrims might be heard screaming beneath the rubble on Tuesday.

While returning from the pilgrimage of Kedarnath, a group of tourists was caught in a Landslide at about the time of 07:20 PM on Monday.

Personnel of the SDRF and NDRF stepped into action without delay and took out one corpse of a pilgrim from the mass of the crowd, and rushed him to a hospital after retrieving him from the mass of other pilgrims marshaled by the army.

The operation to rescue those trapped within the middle of the road from the Temple had to be called off in the course of the evening because of the terrible weather conditions and boulders which were still intermittently rolling down the hill.

While rescuers continued work shortly after some hours, additional corpses of four other pilgrims numbered among three women were pulled out of the ruins as it appears.

The two known pilgrims, 50-year-old Durgabai Khapar from Madhya Pradesh Ghat district, and Bihar-born 70-year-old Titli Devi, also have interesting profiles as does 50 year old Saman Bai from Dhar of Madhya Pradesh and 52 year old Bharat Bhai Niralal from Geeta Bhavan Surat who belongs to Gujarat.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Dhami Pushkar Singh has expressed his sorrow regarding the demise of human lives in the tragedy.
