In Kodagu district, Karnataka, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly brutally killed because her marriage proposal was delayed due to being underage. According to the police, at the time of crime occurrence on Friday; the defendant who is 32 years old decapitated the girl and took away her head before escaping from the crime scene.
There was no arrest of Prakash who is alleged to have committed the crime.
On Thursday, child helpline number received information that Prakash had engaged Meena who had just completed class ten in Surabhi village as informed by Police.
But later that day, child welfare department officials went to their home upon which they counselled both families that if they agreed to proceed with it they would be forced into invoking relevant provisions of Child Marriage Act and Child Labour Act respectively.
Both families then consented that only when Meena became eighteen years could she marry Prakash.
Then the groom’s family and other officials left.
However, at around 5.30pm on Thursday, he came back and attacked Meena’s parents before dragging her for about one hundred meters away from there.
He then severed her head and threw away her body while taking off with Meena’s head according to Police.
The victim’s mother received treatment at the hospital but not his father since no visible cuts were found on him according to police reports obtained by news channels.
This means that up until now police have not been able to establish any particular reason behind this act so they are working hard to capture him alive or dead.

According to police sources ,the girl knew about being betrothed but only members of her family had any information related to that.
The victim is survived by five siblings, three sisters and two brothers, and she was the last born.
