Honorable H K Patil, a member of parliament addressed the Bengaluru legislative assembly in his capacity as Minister of Law.
On July 25, the Karnataka Legislative Assembly passed resolutions against delimitation of Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies on the basis of forthcoming census, “One Nation One Election” proposal and National Entrance cum Eligibility Test (NEET).
“In this regard, the Central Government is hereby urged not to undertake delimitation of constituencies based on any census that might be done in years after 2026. Consequently, if there is need to increase seats proportionally per population in a state one has look back at 1971 census figures for Lok Sabha seats and Assembly Constituency,” it added.
The second resolution by congress government stated that ‘One Nation One Election’ would undermine India’s democratic and federal structure.
Different State legislatures have different tenures while uniform election schedules can threaten states rights by concentrating much on national issues rather than local problems. Thus, security measures are not satisfactory; management of electoral staff is questionable; voters feel hopeless; accountability is decreased by officials; poverty and limited resources hamper economic development as well as social welfare are some concerns raised when these elections are harmonized according to Congress government.
“Therefore this draconian statute ought not to be enacted by our Parliament so that democracy in India may prevail,” the resolution says with respect to its title submitted by Law & Parliamentary Affairs Minister H.K. Patil.
The NEET examination system was criticized by the government for being oppressive to rural poor children who would like to study medicine. It ruins school education system, denies states governments’ role of admitting students into their own medical colleges thus we want it removed entirely from operation.
The third resolution stated: “This House demands that Karnataka shall be exempted from this exam so as to provide admission in medical colleges for school students based upon CET conducted by State Government and cancel NEET in view of nation wide anomalies and to make suitable amendments in National Medical Commission Act, 2019 (Central Act 30 of 2019)”, said the third resolution.
After that, Speaker U.T. Khader announced that resolutions were passed.
