The movie maker Meghna Gulzar, who is known for making hard-hitting movies like Talvar and Raazi, is all set to make her next film. The film called “Daayra” inspired by the gruesome Hyderabad encounter case of 2019 is expected to be on floors by the end of 2024. It involved the police extrajudicial murder of four rape suspects in Hyderabad. The script has been finalized by Gulzar as she is currently having advanced talks with Kareena Kapoor Khan and Ayushmann Khurrana for their lead roles.
A report coming from Pinkvilla said: “It’s a hard-hitting film that warrants the presence of actors with the calibre of Kareena Kapoor Khan and Ayushmann Khurrana. They both read it and were shocked by the details of the case. This could be another movie after Talvar that shocks India and initiates conversations around this particular case.”
However, contracts have not yet been signed although Kapoor Khan and Khurrana have shown interest in taking part in this production. According to reports, Meghna Gulzar plans to depict a sensitive view about this matter before its release in 2025.
“It will arrive in the cinema halls in 2025,” says our source. “Meghna has done all her research on the subject through these years and had a solid source material on place for her screenplay. All that happened got her moved.” Both Kareena and Ayushmann felt connected with emotions then are excited at collaborating on this special project.” This would be Abdul Rashid’s first ever on-screen pair up along with Rajiv Gandhi himself.
This incident happened in 2019 which caused national uproar over public outcry against such act; it remembered when its victim was murdered heinously by being raped at once sending shock waves throughout India. No trial was conducted regarding four individuals charged within that matter. Because it was a staged one and no transparency in action. The Supreme Court of India may have been influenced by public sentiment to eventually make its judgment. In 2022, the apex court directed that legal action be taken against 10 police personnel responsible for the encounter.
Junglee Pictures is producing the thriller drama which is already in pre-production stage and will begin shooting in the last quarter of 2024.
