According to the police, on the first day of the yearly kanwar yatra on July 22nd, a car was vandalized and its travelers beaten up by ‘kanwariyas’ who alleged that it had grazed them at this point on the Haridwar-Delhi national highway.
However, they noted that late Sunday night in the Chhapar area underneath Bajheri cut in district, one group of believers stated that a particular person’s ‘kanwar’ got contaminated when an automobile touched it.
But according to one policeman there is no any kanwary came forward to confirm if his own came across with that vehicle.
Kanwars are pots filled with water from River Ganga and hung on beautifully decorated bamboo sticks. In order to be presented as offerings to Lord Shiva, these sticks are balanced by kanwariyas on their shoulders as they return home carrying holy water with them.
The yatra began on Monday which is also the first day of Shravan (Sawan) and will end on August 2.
Efforts are being made by Circle Officer Raju Kumar Sab to identify passengers and driver of damaged vehicle after it was impounded. He added that CCTV footage for the region was also under investigation.
