Kangana Ranaut, the politician who was once an actress, has found herself in another controversial dispute having published a photoshopped picture of Rahul Gandhi on social media. The defamation notice was given to the MP from Mandi by the BJP where he was accused of posting an edited image of Gandhi with him depicted wearing a skull cap, neck cross and tilak made from turmeric and vermillion.

The controversy erupted after Kangana Ranaut shared the morphed image of Rahul Gandhi in a post that was aim at criticizing his recent remarks on the caste census in Parliament. With this altered photo came her caption “Jaati jivi jise bina jaati pooche jaati ganana karani hai (One who wishes to hold a caste census without asking anyone’s caste).”
Many netizens were quick to criticize her act as being insensitive and provocative. But now, things have taken a legal turn.
Action Against Kangana
The contentious post by Kangana has however attracted litigation from senior Supreme Court advocate Narendra Mishra. Mishra, who has filed a defamation suit worth INR 400 million against the actress argued that it is illegal under IT Act to morph someone’s picture digitally and disseminate it online without obtaining their consent. In his also statement, Mishra affirmed that “This act tarnishes the image of Rahul Gandhi and defames him publicly.”

Kangana never hides her hatred for Rahul; prior to sending him a defamation notice she told journalists that he needs to have drug tests conducted on him. Reacting to his speech on the Union Budget 2024 in Lok Sabha, She stated about yesterday what “Rahul Gandhi has no dignity, and yesterday he was saying that we are Shivji’s baraat and this is a Chakravyuh.”
