Kangana Ranaut has expressed her wrath against the creators of the recently launched web series named IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack. The web series published on Seniority consisted of the cast of actor Vijay Varma and was directed by Anubhav Sinha, has faced criticism for its depiction of the 1999 hijack of an Indian Airlines flight to Afghanistan due to allegedly giving the hijackers’s name as ‘Bhola’ and ‘Shankar’ which are Hindu-names.
What is the IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack Controversy?
Like IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, it is narrated from the viewpoint of the kidnapping that took place in December 1999 when terrorists hijacked an Indian Airlines plane which had a large number of passengers. They demanded the bonds of terrorists in exchange for the security of the hostages. Those responsible for the hijack were later known to be connected to terrorists residing in Pakistan and included names such as Ibrahim Athar, Shahid Akhtar Sayed, Sunny Ahmed Qazi, Zahoor Mistry and Shakir. But in the web based series the terrorists have been shown with the names like ‘Bhola’ and ‘Shankar’, which has garnered a lot of negative reactions from the audience on the internet. The audience and the theatre critics have accused the makers of the project of modifying the reality in such a way that the audience is tricked.

She claimed that they purported to those involved in the making of IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack about politically inclined persuaders.
Kangana wrote, “Law of the land is that one can show unimaginable amount of violence and nudity on OTT platforms without any punishment or restriction on censorship, even one can change the course of life events because of their politically motivated devious ideas. In this case, there are all the possibilities for communists or leftists throughout the globe to manifest these sorts of anti-national sentiments and expressions, but being a nationalist, there is no OTT platform that permits us to produce films on the integrity and unity of Bharat.”
