Kangana Ranaut continues to be victorious in Mandi by a huge margin of 70,000 votes as a BJP candidate: “This is my janmabhoomi”.
The Bollywood actress who is also a politician clinched victory in the parliamentary elections of 2024 from the Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi constituency. She contested on Bhartiya Janta Party ticket and defeated her closest competitor, Vikramaditya Singh of Congress by a good difference of 72,088 votes.
Her commitment to the region was emphasized by Kangana in her victory speech according to ANI. She said that “Mandi has not taken kindly to the insults for daughters.” Also she added that, “As far as my departure to Mumbai is concerned, this (Himachal Pradesh) is my ‘janmabhoomi’ and I will continue to serve people here. So, I am not going anywhere. Perhaps, someone else will have to pack their bags and leave.”
There were high expectations about the contest in Mandi involving two prominent faces; Kangana Ranaut and Vikramaditya Singh. Singh hails from a powerful political family line and he represented Congress. The aforementioned played his part well and won the state assembly election with an impressive margin over his nearest rival (Table).
Both candidates stressed during their campaigns how they wanted to see Mandi develop. For instance, under Ranaut’s campaign it was promised that she would improve infrastructure facilities such as roads hospitals schools among others beside empowering womenfolk within her area of governance. In her many speeches she recounted her journey from being a small town girl into acting at bollywood movies. As opposed to that Singh relied on his deep rooted connections and his father’s legacy to seek support.
