Laura Loomer, a far-right commenter reacted to the comments made by Trump about Kamala Harris’s ethnicity in an interaction with Donald Trump on Wednesday at the National Association for Black Journalists (NABJ), by sharing her birth certificate which recorded that Kamala Harris’ mother of Caucasian origin.
Loomer’s post seemed to support Trump’s claim that Harris, who is currently leading him in five of seven battleground states according to a recent Bloomberg poll, is not Black. Harris’s mother, Shyamala Gopalan, was an Indian-American biomedical scientist, and her father, Donald Harris, is a Jamaican-American professor emeritus at Stanford University.
This has been established by fact-checkers including Snopes; they have stated that during the 1960s California birth certificates rarely indicated the race of the child. Furthermore, Kamala Harris’ team responded that though her mom’s being listed as “Caucasian” does not change her affiliation.
Earlier yesterday evening in Chicago while attending an annual gathering for Black journalists Trump did his interview there with him raising questions about whether Kamala Harris was really black or not.
“Until about some years ago when she decided she would turn black and now wants to remain Black. So I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black?” Trump said concerning Harris whose mother is Indian American and whose father is African American.
Kamala Harris’ team released a statement in response to Trump’s comments: “What we saw on stage tonight from Donald Trump were more racist attacks on Kamala Harris who he’s been doing it his whole life and throughout this presidency and this campaign season as he tries to reclaim power and impose his damaging Project 2025 agenda on Americans.”
