The former Vice President Mike Pence, who used to be loyal to Donald Trump and fight for the MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement, is now not supporting his bid for re-election.
During an appearance on Indiana 250, Off the Record podcast, recently, Pence explained his reasons why he would not support Trump’s present campaign for presidency. The ex vice-president who served from January 2017 through January 2021 identified four major issues:
Election certification dispute: Pence took issue with Trump’s insistence that he should have blocked the certification of results of the presidential election in 2020.
Foreign policy shift: He expressed discomfort about what he sees as a more “isolationist” foreign policy turn by Trump.
National debt: Under Donald Trump’s presidency, Pence argued that there has been an increase in national debt.
Abortion policy: He was unhappy with GOP’s 2024 platform particularly its de-emphasis on abortion as a central issue.
Pence talked about Capitol riot that happened on January 6th, 2021 where crowds of Trump supporters chanted “Hang Mike Pence.” “My endorsement was not forthcoming because the president (Trump) hasn’t changed his vision about my constitutional responsibilities on January 6 and also I see President Trump leading our party away from many of the policies that we governed on for four years,” said he.
Pence has also kept silent about any possible support that can come from his side toward Kamala Harris amid social media theories that suggest him endorsing Democratic nominee. He never confirmed publicly nor showed favor to Harris using politics as a cover up.
However, notwithstanding such supposition Pence’s position regarding Trump’s leadership and policy divergence only confirms his dedication to principles once shared when they were in power.
