Former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam on Sunday (December 8, 2024) charged that the DMK government was “delaying” the investigation of the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy by appealing against the Madras High Court order recommending to transfer the probe in the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
In a statement, Mr. Panneerselvam raised suspicion whether the DMK government was hesitating to transfer the probe to the CBI only because it was apprehensive whether the investigation by the Central agency would locate the actual culprits responsible for the tragedy.
Referring to the arrest of a former DMK functionary in a connection with a drug case, Mr. Panneerselvam charged that the general public were of the strong suspicion whether DMK functionaries had any role in the hooch tragedy too. “The general public expects the CBI to locate the actual culprits in the Kallakurichi tragedy, bring them to book and get them punishment.”
