“The words used by the Commission are that States have exclusive power over production, manufacture, possession, transport, purchase and sale of alcoholic beverages,” said a statement from NHRC. The report was supposed to clearly indicate what had happened with the FIR, what action had been taken against culprits among officers and what happened to victims as well as how compensation was distributed to affected families.
Through media reports on the issue, NHRC became alive to it. It further stated that if these news reports carried truth content then “it raises serious concerns about violation of right to life of victims.”
