After so many expectations, on June 10, the creators finally took off the lid on the trailer to Kalki 2898 AD and undoubtedly it has come up with great applause from both crowd and industry insiders. While everybody is eagerly waiting for its release, a South Korean artist who watched this trailer accused makers of plagiarism. As a proof, he also posted a picture showing how similar his own artistry in an earlier film was to that used in their movie.
South Korean artist Sung Choi shared proof of his artwork
Sung Choi, a well-known South Korean artist who makes numerous sketches and paintings of various characters like these, took to social media to make allegations of copying. It appears that he came across the new teaser that introduced us into the dystopian world of Kalki 2898 AD in the 2800s. Specifically, this frame was juxtaposed against one piece made about ten years ago by Sung (a screenshot from Kalki 2898AD). Choi then uploaded pictures showing them next to each other on his official Instagram account stating “Using someone’s work without permission is wrong; sometimes I can’t even believe I’m doing art when we have no law.”
Although these allegations are yet to be responded to by its producers, many online pals have sided with him leaving comments under his post. “This is beyond disgraceful; moreover it’s even more embarrassing because it is the first shot in their production house,” said one user as another commented “I hope you get legal advice if possible. That’s horrible.” Another wrote “I’m sorry that happened to you. That really sucks”.
