British socialite and former close friend of Meghan Markle, Lizzie Cundy, made bold claims about the Duchess of Sussex‘s recent appearance at the LA Children’s Hospital Gala, accusing her of seeking attention rather than offering genuine support for the cause.
Lizzie Cundy, 56, who also attended the event last Saturday, stated that Meghan’s sole purpose for showing up was “for the photographs.”
The Duchess of Sussex made a striking appearance at the gala, departing from her usual slicked-back hairstyle and opting for soft waves instead, and complemented her look with minimal jewelry and subtle makeup, wearing a red dress. This time, she chose a simpler style by removing the train of her $5,990 (£4,568) gown.
Cundy, who attended the gala in a $339 (£259) Pia Michi dress with a similar pattern to that of the Duchess of Sussex told the Daily Mail: “There wasn’t a great deal of warmth from people when she arrived. She wasn’t there long – she seemed to be there for the photographs.”
“Meghan needs LA more than LA needs her. LA people feel they’ve been played by her,” she said.
“I’d have worn a different one if I’d known,” she added.
This event took place as Prince Harry embarked on a two-week ‘quasi-royal tour’ without her. The former friends nearly crossed paths at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Gala with her close friend Kelly McKee Zajfen.
The British socialite had previously met Meghan when the future Duchess first travelled to the United Kingdom but was “ghosted” when Meghan became engaged to Prince Harry in 2017.
“Once the ring was on the finger, I soon realised she was off Twitter and that her number wasn’t working and that was it,” Cundy had earlier told Grazia, Sky
“I’m afraid both Piers Morgan and I got ghosted,” she added.
Cundy, the ex-wife of retired Chelsea footballer Jason Cundy, is among several high-profile individuals who are no longer on good terms with Meghan, alongside Victoria Beckham and Canadian socialite Jessica Mulroney.
