On Monday, June 24, 2024 about one thousand doctors and another six thousand ones in the Telangana went on strike working at Gandhi Hospital.
The medical staff said that whereas the hospital’s medical services continued as usual it was likely to affect out patient facilities as well.
As patients streamed towards the Outpatient (OP) block of Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad a tent was put up outside Inpatient (IP) building.
These were young doctors who are getting ready to take part in an indefinite strike in protest against State’s failure to meet their demands from government. Over time, hundreds of junior doctors assembling. Holding placards and shouting slogans “When no delay in treatment then why delay in stipends.”
From Monday, all junior doctors throughout the state will shun outpatient services, elective surgeries and ward duties though emergency services will continue. “We have been giving enough time to the government for addressing our demands that can be settle within a day. If there is governmental and administrative commitment” Dr. G Sri Harsha President T-JUDA.
“Our strike shall go on even if within an hour they start depositing our allowances,” added one doctor. “We demand green channel so that we can get stipend timely credit every month,”
Strike notice by T-JUDA was submitte to Director Medical Education (DME) on June 18. Their other requests include timely stipend disbursement through establishing a green channel. Honorarium for superspeciality senior residents, police personnel should be deploye in hospitals to prevent violence upon doctors. New hostels must be built; medical colleges ought to have adequate faculty. While Osmania General Hospital requires a new facility.
