Juhi Chawla was recently quote as saying that her constant collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan has resulted in the revelation of the fascinating story behind his unforgettable stammering line, “K-K-K-Kiran,” in Darr of 1993.
Chawla reveals SRK borrowed iconic “K-K-K-Kiran” dialogue from Yash Chopra in Darr
Shah Rukh Khan is an astute copycat who learns from Yash Chopra
Chawla elaborated during one of her visits to Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry. She said: “I didn’t notice it but Shah Rukh was observant. Yash ji [Chopra, the film’s director] had a slight stammer and Shah Rukh mentioned to me that he picked up this particular trait from him…And then he said I am going to use it in the film and so it started. Thank God for that!”
Yash Raj Films’ 1993 release featured SRK as Rahul Mehra, an obsessive stalker who was after Kiran played by Chawla while she (Kiran) was marry to Sunny Deol’s character – hence making him play an anti-hero.
When SRK Told A Story Behind Stammer
It is interesting because on Netflix docuseries The Romantics released last year itself also mentioned a different story about how his character’s stammer developed. He revealed that he simply drew inspiration from a classmate who stuttered and have long conversations with Aditya Chopra, son of Yash Chopra and assistant director on the film.
According to Shahrukh, “The thought process was that people should be aware of just one sound which can become like live current flowing down making it difficult for one to say that word.” He explained further: “I suggested this idea to Yashji for my character emphasizing on his love interest’s name. Therefore, the stammering comes up only when he’s saying ‘Kiran’.”
On the work front, Juhi was last seen in Netflix original show called The Railway Men and Shah Rukh Khan’s last big screen release was Dunki. Currently, Shah Rukh is holidaying with his wife and children in London and has a movie coming up with his daughter Suhana Khan in Sujoy Ghosh’s King.
