Trade and fans were shocked yesterday when it was announced that Baby John would now be coming on Christmas. It had been initially intended to premiere in theaters on the thirty-first of May but is now moved to 25th December. This production company has also booked the three major holidays of 2024; an intriguing development for this movie studio who are backed by Jio Studios. Stree 2 will come on Independence Day (15th August) while Singham Again will release during Diwali festival. For Jio Studios, this decision represents a significant move aimed at taking advantage of festive seasons when cinema attendance peaks.
Stree 2 is a follow-up to its 2018 prequel, Stree, which was a horror comedy. The second part features Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana and Pankaj Tripathi who formed the original cast. In addition to being set in the same universe as recent hit Munjya, it is also produced by Maddock Films Dinesh Vijan and directed by Amar Kaushik.
The continued popularity of Rohit Shetty’s blockbusters alone has givenSingam Again huge buzz. Like before Ajay Devgn will take the lead role as Bajirao Singham with Kareena Kapoor Khan partnering him, Akshay Kumar partner Deepika Padukone along with Ranveer Singh and Tiger Shroff among others joining them for this time around. Despite clashing against Bhool Bhulaiyaa3 another eagerly-anticipated film at release, the presence of its main protagonist, the action packed sequences so characteristic of it and its sense of patriotism will surely result in massive attendances.
Varun Dhawan plays one of the characters in Baby John alongside Keerthy Suresh and Wamiqa Gabbi while it is directed by Atlee who helmed Jawan. Some details about Baby John has not been made public but it is being said that the movie will be a family-themed one with some funny and touching moments mixed in. The festive season of Christmas when families gather to celebrate may just provide the perfect background for audiences to flock cinema halls for this film.
This strategy by Jio Studios is not only aimed at increasing their viewership but also setting new box office records. The second half of 2024 promises much for film lovers and certainly Jio Studios’ three holiday releases will be at the epicenter of cinematic thrill.
