In broad daylight and reducing the danger to its members, a 12-member gang robbed a gold merchant of 2.63 kilograms of jewellery valued at ₹1.84 crore (or two crores more than the report suggests) by immobilizing his car at Kallidukku along NH 544 within Peechi, Thrissur districts last Sunday (September 22, 2024) at around 11:15 am.

Peechi police have lodged the First Information Report on the basis of a complaint made by 40-year-old Arun Sunny, who is a resident of the following Chembukkavu village in Thrissur. His friend Rojy Thomas was too with him during the incident Sequencing the above incident. As per the concerned complainant, both these individuals were hit by the crime perpetrator.

Both the accused were said to have been traveling from Coimbatore to Thrissur. It was during this journey that the events leading to interviewing of the accused are said to have taken place. At Kallidukku Service Road, several SUVs followed and blocked their car complete with the fitting of punishment weapons. Somehow, the footage of the movie style action was captured into the CCTV of the private bus, which was traveling behind the victim’s car.

If it could be said that one of the in-courts was parked blocking the right of way of the victim’s motor vehicle, the other two were parked on the right hand side and the rear of the victim with a van on the left hand side. The victim and a friend were seen being load into a car of one of the attackers who was masked along with other victims. One such attacker seated at the rear side of the sedans towards the remaining suspect and four cars sped away.

The FIR further reveals that the two men had a rough encounter and that the man was nearly beaten, even with a hammer, to make them speak about the valuables that were concealed in the car. After undertaking the jewelry squandering it they further dump these two in two separate sites while the car was also left behind.

“This is an ongoing investigation. As of now, there is no information on the assailants,” a source from the Peechi police said.

The accused have been charged with Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita Act sections 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 310(2) (dacoity), and 137(2) (abduction).
