In a powerful show of support, Vice President Kamala Harris shared the stage in Las Vegas with iconic entertainer Jennifer Lopez. The two appeared before a lively crowd on Sunday, as Lopez urged voters to back Harris and her efforts to unify the nation, while also calling out former President Donald Trump’s recent MSG rally for fostering division.

In her speech, Lopez addressed the audience as an actress, singer, and proud Puerto Rican-American. During her address, Lopez criticized Trump for hosting a New York event at Madison Square Garden earlier in the week, where speakers allegedly made offensive jokes targeting the Latino community.
Among the speakers was comedian Tony Hinchcliffe aka Kill Tony, who sparked outrage by referring to Puerto Rico as an “island of garbage.” His comment received widespread backlash, especially from Puerto Ricans and advocates for Latino communities across the nation.
“Trump has consistently worked to divide us,” Lopez said. “At Madison Square Garden, he reminded us who he really is and how he really feels. It wasn’t just Puerto Ricans that were offended that day. It was every Latino in this country. It was humanity and anyone of decent character.”
Despite her criticism, ‘On the Floor’ singer clarified that her intention was not to insult others but to stand for unity. “I’m a lover. I am not a fighter. I am not here to trash anyone or bring them down,” she said, emphasising her commitment to positive leadership.
Two times Grammy award nominee went on to say, “I am Puerto Rican, and yes, I was born here, and we are Americans. I am a mother. I am a sister. I am an actor and an entertainer. And I like Hollywood endings. I like when the good guy, and in this case, the good girl wins.”
Polls show that this year’s election may witness a historic gender gap, with a majority of men supporting Trump and most women backing Harris. This reality highlights Harris’s focus on issues that resonate with women voters, especially since the Supreme Court’s decision on June 24, 2022, to overturn Roe v. Wade—a landmark 1973 ruling that legalised abortion nationwide.
