'I want to turn myself in': US man claims he 'accidentally' stabbed father 50 times

A man was charged with first-degree murder after walking into a sheriff’s office in Missouri last week and confessing to fatally stabbing his father around 50 times, according to the New York Post.
After driving to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Jeffrey Goedde, 41, reportedly told officers that he killed his father, Edward Goedde Jr., claiming it was an accident. He was quoted by the New York Post as saying, “I made a mistake. I committed a crime, and I want to turn myself in.”
According to the criminal complaint obtained by Law and Crime, Goedde described his alleged actions, saying his father, Edward Goedde Jr, 75, was “unconscious in the kitchen” of their shared home and “bleeding from his face and back.”
Goedde admitted to using a kitchen knife, other weapons, and even his hands but said he couldn’t fully recall the incident, according to the criminal complaint.
Police went to the Manchester home for a welfare check and entered through a basement window. Inside, they noticed a strong smell of bleach. Edward Goedde was found dead, face down in the kitchen, with multiple injuries.
An autopsy revealed the victim had around 50 stab wounds, broken bones, signs of strangulation, and blunt force trauma to the head, face, and back. A kitchen knife believed to be the murder weapon was discovered in a trash can about five feet from the body.
After officers informed Jeffrey Goedde of the discovery, he reportedly said he knew he couldn’t leave “because he accidentally killed someone” and asked for a lawyer, declining to answer further questions.
Jefferson County Sheriff Dave Marshak said Goedde turned himself in at the sheriff’s office instead of Manchester police, likely because he trusted the county agency.
Goedde is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. He is being held without bond and is set to appear in court on January 16.
