Ohio Senator JD Vance faces controversy as he posts a picture on social media of a cat wearing a ‘Cats for Vance 2024’ bandana. The picture has the caption, ‘I wonder if this cat knows…’ and it has become popular because it was probably made in reaction to the criticism that Vance has been receiving over the years.
Vance has been mentioned as one of the possible persons who may be nominated as the running mate of the former president Donald Trump, has made news in the past for calling out and apparently ridiculing people for being childless, saying the country is led by ‘a bunch of lonely miserable cat ladies without kids’.
Criticism of such view stems from the general belief in social justice, or at least respect to basic human rights, this hence would not look favorably on the policies issued by Vance which belittles people without children.
Besides, even Weingarten’s quote served to accentuate the controversy surrounding Vance’s rhetoric, which he employed in these emails to solicit fundraising from berserk childless leaders. It was these aspects that spilled over into a more general discussion on his approach to leadership and family.
It is clear from the last photo of a cat that Vance also wanted to bring some humor into the fray, but the attempts were executed poorly. People had different reactions to the post. Some regarded the post to be frivolous in nature, while some reproached the post for rendering a very light touch to a very heavy issue discussed in his previous posts.
