It was an Israeli NGO named Shavei Israel which sought assistance in regards to an Indian-origin Israeli solider who has been killed in a ramming incident. The NGO made a call to the public regarding the immigration of the family to Israel.
Shavei Israel extends support in the resettlement of the Bnei Menashe, a community of Indian Jews resettling from the northeastern states of Manipur and Mizoram.
Geri Gideon Hanghal who was of Indian origin and serving as a staff sergeant in an Israeli soldier has died earlier in the month while serving at the Asaf Junction which is close to the Beit El settlement in the West bank territory in a vehicle blast attack.
Sgt Gideon Hanghal of first regiment was a true hero of the Bnei Menashe fought against all odds and offered his life to Israel. PTI news agency reported such a message from Shavei Israel, including that Gideon’s brother, his wife with two children and ‘other people still in Israel waiting to get the right for arrivals’ were also mentioned.
The position which Shavei Israel took further was: It is necessary that all Bnei Menashe immigrants come to Israel and so let it be in memory of Gideon’s family.
The organisation is convinced that every one of the 5,000 Bnei Menashe in India who would like to make aliyah should do so, and do so without delay. They suggested people aid Gideon’s family and try to help relocate some of his remaining family to Israel.
The major goal of Shavei Israel is to find a way to the “lost and hidden” Jews and help them return to their people, the State of Israel. The organisation stressed the need to assist the family of the soldier who died in India to settle, “He has earned us that much.”
The community member who came from Manipur to Israel in the year 2020 by the name of Hanghal was living in Nof HaGalil when he served in the berkhan Kfir Brigade Nahshon Battalion. When it was that time to put him to rest, a massive number of people came and all were pained about a life wasted so soon. About 300 Bnei Menashe children are said to be in the Israeli army at this time, the bulk of them are in active combat.
The Bnei Menashe descended from tribes in the Indian states of Manipur, Mizoram carry their roots to one of the lost tribes, the Menasseh of the Israelites.
In 2005, Sephardic Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar recognized their identity and accepted them as Menasseh’s offspring allowing for their entrance into Israel as a lost tribe. As of today, nearly 5000 Bnei Menashe community has settled in Israel and within the last five years nearly 1500 people have taken this journey. 5500 more are still in India, hoping to go there as well.
Nof HaGalil Mayor Ronen Plot was sorry to hear about this attitude and said, “The city of Nof HaGalil expresses its sorrow over the death of Staff Sgt Hanghal. Gideon belonged to the Bnei Menashe group of people, who I must say is really dear to me-good, humble, patriotic.”
Israeli security sources named the attacker who rammed the gate as Hayil Dhaifallah, aged 58 from the central West Bank town of Rafat. The images also captured a truck with Palestinian number plates moving off the busy road and within seconds ramming through the walls of an Israel defence forces (IDF) Observation Post situated next to a bus stop.
