On Thursday, Israeli armed forces attacked a Gaza school, causing the death of over 30 people. The Israeli military claimed that it housed a Hamas compound and killed fighters involved in an October 7 assault that launched the eight-month war.
However, Gaza media has it that as many as 39 persons who were looking for shelter in the school died during the airstrike.
Ismail Al-Thawabta, the director of Hamas-run government media office denied Israel’s claims that the UNRWA school in Nuseirat, central Gaze contained a concealed Hamas command post.
“It was terrorists from Hamas and Islamic Jihad belonging to Nukhba Forces who committed the murderous attack on communities in Southern Israel on October 7th”, it said.
“The terrorists directed terror from there because they exploited it and used it as a shelter”.
According to news reports from inside Hamas’ media office at least 39 people were killed while dozens injured in the raid with casualties taken to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital. They accused the Israeli army of committing a “horrific massacre… that shames humanity.”
“Before striking several measures were implemented to minimize damage on uninvolved civilians during strikes like aerial surveillance; additional intelligence information,” the Israeli military said.
The hospital had experienced an electrical generator failure earlier in the night which complicated patient treatment. Doctors Without Borders (MSF) says prior to this strike since Tuesday alone, more than 70 dead including women and children have been received at this hospital also wounded numbering more than 300 due to Israeli strikes against central Gaza area.
