The Israeli Police and Shin Bet have released a joint statement clarifying on m Thursday, the detention of an Israeli national accused of engaging with Iranian secret service with the view of eliminating top Israeli leaders, including the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“The person carried out ‘positions’ and was smuggled for this reason to Iran on two occasions and was paid for doing tasks,” said the statement.
As per the police, the assassination plots delved much deeper than Prime Minister Netanyahu, also including defence minister Yoav Gallant, Shin Bet head Ronen Bar, and other key officials.
The alleged person of interest and ‘suspect’ was only said to be ‘a businessman who had mostly been in Turkey,’ cut him and others can be found in both a Turkish and an Iranian camp teach reported long said.
According to reports from Israeli media outlets, the detained man is a Jew who comes from the Israeli city Ashkelon. In his statements, the police said that during the time spent by the man in Iran, the operative was given several active assignments in Israel. It was further alleged that he was last given orders to come up with assassination schemes and choose appropriate people for the same.
A senior Shin Bet officer stressed the urgency of the situation and said, ‘This is an extremely serious case that demonstrates the terrible struggle which Israeli intelligence agents face in trying to use anti-Israeli terrorism with the help of Israeli citizens.’
