The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led government in India has been criticized by Congress spokesperson, Pawan Khera, who accused it of “paying lower wages than Pakistan and Nigeria thereby subjecting a lot of population to a very low standard of living.”
Mr. Khera cited a report authored by Velocity Global stating that “while Narendra Modi sells the dream of making India the third biggest economy based on GDP growth; the reality is something else.”
According to him, “India is not among those countries which pay their workers lesser than Pakistan or Nigeria” he wrote on X.
He also claimed that India ranks first amongst 10 countries with the lowest wages worldwide, where an employee earns about $45 per month on average.
“On the other hand, minimum wage is set at $76 for Nigeria and Uzbekistan, $114 for Pakistan, $128 for Philippines, $130 for Indonesia, $140 for Vietnam as well as Ukraine ($177). In contrast to this even such small countries have much higher minimum rates: Armenia – $187, Kazakhstan – $188,” he explained.
