Hundreds of Indian students studying in Canada have taken to the streets to criticize recently reformed immigration legislations, which according to Business Today, surround the mass fear of being deported.
These changes include the new introduction of restrictions on study permits introduced by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s regime, that affects over 70,000 international students.
Students protest owing to emigration fears
The protests reflect growing frustration among students who came to Canada with hopes of making a new life for themselves. The new policies have spoiled their plans, raising issues of immigration and employment. The condition has deteriorated with new provincial policies which seek a reduction of 25 percent on the levels of permanent residence nominations, putting many students at risk.
Students: We are completely blindsided , and are being taken advantage of.
But couples who have been living in Canada for over a year believe that these policies are unfair and devastate them emotionally. Democratic accountability Minister Rupender Singh, who crossed over from India in 2019, wailed away.
“We imagined specific activity to take us here; now we are IMB in IBM – come back,” he said, this was reported by CBC News. Singh charged the trends which took the students out, added upward pressure of exploitation, calling the province deceiving students.
Decrease in the temporary foreign workforce and possible immigration reductions
Adding to the students’ grievances, the Canadian government slashed the number of foreign workers more than before in contrast to the expansion in 2022. The aim of this measure is to counter the fears of increasing temporary residents in the country.
Moreover, Trudeau’s cabinet is also considering changes which may affect certain permanent residency categories. According to the Prime Minister, the purpose of the policy is to appreciate the importance of immigration while ensuring that there are ways to safely assimilate immigrants.
“I would like to put it this way. We are examining the residuals so that in the future, Canada remains a supportive place for immigration but also courteous in provision of integration and the success of the newcomers here,” he stated.
