The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has declaration of development of an ‘Integrated Ocean Energy Atlas’ indicating ocean energy resources like marine meteorological (solar and wind) and hydrological (wave, tide, currents, ocean thermal, and salinity gradients) energy forms of the Indian EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone) on Friday 13th September, 2024.
The Atlas was formally released by Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences M. Ravichandran in presence of Directorate of INCOIS T. Srinivasa Kumar, Group Director T. Balakrishnan Nair and other Scientists. The Atlas delineates the sites of high energy potential which will be used as a tool to Policymakers Industry and Researchers to tap the vast energy potential available in the Indian EEZ.
INCOIS undertook the ocean energy components strong for annual, monthly and daily energy assessment based on standard procedures that can be displayed using a WebGIS interface at 5 km grid. INCOIS has projected integrated ocean energy of ~ 9.2 lakh TWh per annum in the EEZ of India. The Institute seeks to work with private investors and state owned enterprises to implement technologies for generation of marine energy in potentially energetic sites in the Indian EEZ, the press release remarked.
