Elon Musk has withdrawn his legal action against OpenAI only a day before the scheduled hearing on Wednesday. Five months ago, in February, this year he filed a lawsuit against Sam Altman, CEO of the San Francisco based AI firm, OpenAI for ‘betraying’ the ethical and philosophical underpinnings that initially guided its creation.
It was not clear why it had been dropped.
In February 2020 when he financed OpenAI’s establishment, Musk declared that he had made an understanding with Altman and Greg Brockman – who is also the president – that would ensure that this organization remains as a non-profit entity which will be committed to public welfare by developing technology and keeping its code open rather than barricading them off for private exploitation. However, through an association with Microsoft, OpenAI deliberately “torched” this agreement’ according to Elon Musk filed in the suit.
According to most legal experts Mr. Musks assertions are unlikely to win in court.
