On Thursday, BSP president Mayawati (September 19, 2024) asked the Bihar government to act against the burning down several houses of Dalits in Nawada district of the State.

The former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh state has also demandedthat the government offer all the necessary financial support to rehabilitate the poor victims.

“Many poor Dalit houses were lazy by bad elements in the Nawada district of Bihar a totally unacceptable and saddening concern. The perpetrators of the crime must consumed to legal action and also the authorities should at all costs help in the resettlement of the tenants,” Mayawati said in Hindi on X.

“Disturbance in the area owing to communal tension is something that every police in the state dislikes to admit but more often than not, the level of emotions during such a scenario can cause just that: flames, hurt and destruction. Thus, in the evening of Wednesday, September 18, 2024, 21 houses were burnt down by enraged persons at Manjhi Tola within Mufassil police station area of Nawada, Bihar,” local police reported.

No injury was reported in the episode though the authorities announced that preliminary investigations indicated the incident involved an unlawful interference focused on a land dispute.

The police have been reported to have registered a case regarding the issue, and they have also started the investigation detaining 10 suspects by Wednesday night, even as a big deployment of police remained in the area to avoid any escalation.
