Typhoon Shanshan made its landfall on Japan’s southern island of Kyushu on Thursday. The typhoon brought heavy rainfall, violent wind and caused a lot of calamities including fears of flooding and landslides which left three people dead and many others injured.
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) took the unprecedented step of issuing the highest warnings and advised people in the affected areas to move to community centers and other safe buildings. Kyushu was also reported as receiving rain amounting to 60 cm in 1 day.
The storm slowly moved towards the northern side and moved at a speed of 15 kph (9 mph). It had hurricane force winds amounting to 144 kph (89 mph). It was reported that the strong rain caused a landslide that destroyed one house in the Central Region City of Gamagori k3 people were killed and two others hurt.
One person was knocked off a motorcycle by a wind gust after the storm moved past the southern island of Amami, the fire and disaster management agency has said.
