CAIRO: World hunger monitor has said that, as long as there is a conflict between Israel and Hamas and humanitarian access is limited, there is a tremendous risk of famine in the whole Gaza Strip.
In an update to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) seen by Reuters before its release on Tuesday, more than 495,000 people, or over 20% of those living in Gaza are experiencing extreme levels of food insecurity hitherto recorded only in cases of famine.
The IPC has stated that enhanced food supplies for northern Gaza during March and April appeared to have lessened the extent of hunger there when UN-supported agency had predicted it would bring about starvation previously.
The IPC however indicated that gains made in April could be easily reversed.
According to this latest update from IPC “The humanitarian space in the Gaza Strip continues to shrink and the ability to safely deliver assistance to populations is dwindling. The recent trajectory is negative and highly unstable.”
