Netflix and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar has reached a new milestone that includes their popular song ‘Sakal Ban’. The RCM Museum in London will feature the dance number Kathak in its exhibition titled Awaken: Sufi Music and Women of South Asia.
This exhibition would be taking place in UK for 3 months until October, starting from Heeramandi to immortal and mythical Sufi songs like Mughal-E-Azam and Zeenat marking it as an important event in the history of Indian music.
Heeramandi song ‘Sakal Ban’ gets featured at Royal College of Music Museum Exhibition in London
On Netflix, during the first week, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar was seen by more people than any other Indian show, even topping the popularity charts in 43 countries. It is the maiden Indian drama having a globally recognized album with music that showcases our country’s heritage on a worldwide stage. This year’s exhibition at The Royal College of Music Museum is called “Awake…”; it explores women who are often overlooked as part of male dominated Sufism musical world.
The display opened on June 18th with objects borrowed from collections worldwide demonstrating how these female practitioners have shaped Sufism history. From Mughal period onwards till today, voices, performances and instruments of Sufi women can be heard through this exhibition featuring Pakistan, India, or Bangladesh while being held in London.

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, with Manisha Koirala appearing as the lead actress, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Richa Chadha and Sharmin Segal as the courtesans of Lahore; Heeramandi delves into subjects like love, betrayal, power and patriotism. Starring Manisha Koirala and other top Bollywood actors such as Sonia Khan, this work of art is comprised of eight episodes that are already streaming on Netflix in 190 countries.
