Due to the continuous rains and therefore before for the floods, in Andhra Pradesh state particularly in Vijayawada, is said to be the “biggest disaster” in the State. This was however witnessed by the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in his political career who even goes ahead to say that he is going to urge the Central government to pronounce the flood in the State as a disaster of national scale.This is more so after the government is said to have requested several states in its country to declare certain types of floods that have recursively hit Andra Pradesh as a national calamity.
Andhra Pradesh
At least 17 people have been killed in rain’s caused events and accompanying floods.
‘In my career, these calamities stand the fiercest. It happens in almost every decade over hundred cyclones – mR. Naidu said in a press conference in at NTR district collectorate on Monday. Some of these calamities include High Cyclone disaster and Titli hurricane evants but as of now, here more than the property loss is the human suffering and property loss is the highest.’
He further elaborated that the Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada has experienced a highest level of flood about 11.43 lakh of discharge which is more than the design capacity of 11.9 lakh of flood water . His ward which is Ajit Singh Nagar is still submerged under flood water but this is receding slowly. It is protected as the floodwater is still present in some areas of flooding but Ajit Singh Nagar has received a one and a half-foot decline in floodwaters and Bhavanipuram also has started to decrease according to Mr. Naidu.
Telangana
As the rains irrespective of the geography hit Telangana, at least 16 people lost their lives in various rain-related incidents as torrential rains lashed the state. On the other hand, on Monday, the State government estimated damage to be around ₹ 5000 crore and requested the Central government for immediate relief of ₹ 2000 crore.
Many of the low lying regions were submerged, crops were destroyed, and railway and roadway communications of the affected state with Andhra Pradesh were also interrupted.
The given Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy issued Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia to the family members of deceased victims of rain related violence, further appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to tour the rain affected region and termed the flood as a national disaster.
Gujarat
Gujarat region experienced rains in several areas on Monday, and in Bharuch city, officials reported that there was 120 millimeters of rain between 4 PM and 6 PM.
The India Meteorological Department has predicted more rain throughout the state this week. Monday’s rainfall was experienced after a two-day lapse. The National Capital had unseasonal rainfall a week ended which had resulted in floods.
The IMD has warned of ‘heavy to very heavy’ rain at a few places in Chhota Udepur, Narmada, and Surat districts until Wednesday morning and beyond. It has also predicted that there will be extensive rainfall in the State during the period of the next three days, although some isolated areas will still experience heavy rain up to Saturday.
As per IMD, cyclone ‘Asna’ which formed in Kutch waters on Friday has weakened into a depression and is heading south to south-west of Arabian sea on Monday.
Himachal Pradesh
The Shimla meteorological center warned moderate to severe flash floods in the hilly states including Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, Kinnaur and other parts of Himachal Pradesh on or before September 3, 2024.
It especially warned of ‘yellow’ warning of heavy rain, thunderstorm and lightning at limited places in nine out of 12 districts of the state excluding Kinnaur, Chamba and Lahaul and Spiti till Tuesday.
And, 109 including one national highway were reported to be closed after heavy rainfall that day in many parts of the state according to the state emergency operation center.
Delhi
Delhi Police investigated the commute planning process during peak hours after traffic congestions occurred at multiple spots due to water logging and fallen trees caused by rain on Monday.
While posting on X, police reported that both the carriageways of National Highway 48 from Dhaula Kuan towards Mahipalpur and vice versa were made impassable due to waterlogging.
The carriageway of Ring Road from DND towards Moolchand underpass was also impacted due to waterlogging; on both sides of Road No 13 towards Okhla Estate Road; both the Outer Ring Road carriageways; from Safdarjang to Dhaula Kuan; and from Badarpur to Mehrauli, among other avenues were also affected.
