Heavy rainfall in Maharashtra forces release of water from Khadakwasla Dam-Pune, waterlogging in Mumbai.
On July 25, Khadakwasla Dam, which was getting continuously rain-soaked in the catchment area became full.
According to information from District Information Office, on Thursday at 6 am., Pune administration had increased its speed and released 40,000 cusecs of water into Mutha river.
Earlier on Thursday, at 4 a.m., water was released with a speed of twenty-seven thousand two hundred and three cubic feet per second.
An alert has been issued to the residents living along the riverbanks. In addition, as a result of heavy rains in Pune on Wednesday night, water gushed into houses and buildings situated in Ekta Nagri and Vitthal Nagar areas.
Henceforth rescuers sent by Pune Fire Department brought boats for evacuating people from their residences. Additionally, over Palghar districts an isolated place with gusty winds is expected at the rate of 50 to 60 km per hour while moderate ran will be observed in Kolhapur and Ghat areas of pune for about three hours based on forecast made by the District Information Office.
In this regard, Suhas Diwas D.M has given orders that schools in Pune should be closed because India Meteorological Department has forecasted red alert for Pimpri-Chinchwad, Thane city, Bhor, Maval, Velha, Mulshi, Haveli, Khadakwasla,” Suhas Diwas said
Public advisories were also issued telling people to stay home unless it is absolutely necessary to go outside
Also on Thursday Indian Meteorological Department has declared Maharashtra state as red alert where the rainfall would be extremely heavy.
Similarly orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall (115.6-204.4 mm) from July 26-27 in Maharashtra state was raised yesterday.
An orange alert has also been given for Thane, PALGHAR, RAIGAD, RATNAGIRI, SINDHUDURG districts of konkan in Maharashtra.
Moderate to heavy rain is likely over the city and suburbs of Mumbai on Thursday, while very heavy rainfall at isolated places can occur. The occasional gusty winds could reach 50-60 kmph.
Mumbai as well as suburbs are also expected to receive moderate to heavy rains with some areas experiencing heavy rains. On the other hand occasionally gusty winds blowing at 50 to 60 kilometers per hour are possible.

Waterlogging from incessant rain has forced the closure of Andheri Subway for vehicular movement in Mumbai.
The recent downpours have resulted in water logging at many low lying areas across the city center Mumbai and its neighboring cities.
