Heavy rain and multiple landslips less than a month ago had forced 20 families to be shifted to relief camps which were temporarily moved to the safety of rented accommodation at Vilangad in the Vanimal panchayat of Kozhikod on Tuesday.
These families were evacuated from the houses in the Manassery region on Tuesday in the wee hours and took shelter in the parish hall at Manjakkunnu and St George’s school at Vilangadu as heavy rain led to mudslides that swept large boulders and trees on the path that was created by the previous landslip which clogged the waterway. Flash floods hit Vilangad town and Subramanya bridge was drenched around 3 am.
Authorities however incurring its non credibility indicated the information which spread that there was another landslip. “It is just the remnants of the earlier landslip that washed down the river now.” Said Vinodan K.K, this time the secretary by Vanimal panchayat.
The rain ceased later in morning hours as passing through their houses and also Mahe river waters lowered. The rains barely stopped for some of the evacuation groups and they were bored in renting. One more damage has occurred, Mr. Vinodan said.
At Vilangad on July 30, several landslides occurred, and in these, one person died, around 130 families were rendered homeless. There were also consequent destructions of roads and bridges.
