“Four people have disappeared due to floods in Dehradun, Haldwani and Chamoli,” according to the Uttarakhand state police.
According to the rescue room of the disaster control room in Dehradun, two bodies have been carried away while searching for one that is yet to be found after getting flushed by waters from an overflowing seasonal canal at Raipur in Dehradun.
In Dehradun, several buildings were flooded and many homes were waterlogged.
Likewise, they said that another person was swept away by a river in Haldwani of Nainital district while a woman named Devchauli was missing along with her child since July 31 evening when their house fell down.
“In Bharpur village of Bahadarabad area under Haridwar district, three persons died and as many others got injured after a house collapsed on July 31 due to heavy rainfall.” – police stated
“Three members of a family – Bhanu Prasad (50), his wife Neelam Devi (45), and son Vipin (28) – were killed in a landslip following cloudburst that damaged their roadside restaurant at Jakhanyali village near Ghansali area of Tehri district”, said officials.
“Vipin was saved but he died while being taken to AIIMS Rishikesh,” added Brijesh Bhatt who is the District Disaster Management Officer in Tehri.
As per eyewitnesses and local residents there were around ten cars which were washed away by floodwaters into Sukhi River bed last evening because of heavy rains in Uttarakhand.
The SDRF officials further revealed that the NDRF teams and state administration have been sent out on sites most affected across the state.
200 passengers who had been stranded on Kedarnath route because falling stones and washing away of 20-25m footpath near Bhimbali Chowki have been shifted to safer places, said Vinod Kumar Suman, Secretary (Disaster).
In a Facebook post, the CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said that “Pilgrims stranded on their way to Kedarnath trek route are being brought to emergency helipad”.
“The relief and rescue works are going on in Rambada, Bhimbali, Jakhaniyali and other affected areas. The whole squad is working promptly for public safety who are coming from different states and state’s residents. We request all of you to get updates on weather conditions before traveling,” he added.
He also announced that he would be doing an aerial as well as ground inspection of disaster-hit areas in Rudraprayag and Tehri Garhwal districts.
Similarly, pilgrims heading for Kedarnath have been advised to hold their journey until the road is repaired.
On August 1st schools up to 12th standard and anganwadi centers remained shut in many districts including (Uttarakhand) Dehradun.
