Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ma. Subramanian on Sunday inspected the primary health centre (PHC) at Samayapuram in Tiruchi and interacted with doctors, staff, and patients at the centre.
The Minister enquired with the patients about the treatment provided at the centre and on the availability and requirement of facilities and the general functioning of the PHC.
During his surprise visit, a boy who was bitten by a dog was administered an anti-rabies vaccine (ARV). Mr. Subramanian asked the nurse about the dosage. It is said that the patient would be administered four doses of ARV on the 0, 3, 7 and 28 days of a bite.
The Minister said that only after June 2023, dog bite and snake bite vaccines, ARV and ASV respectively, had been made available in PHCs and sub-centres. Prior to that, patients had to go to a District Headquarters Government Hospital to get vaccinated.
