Former President Donald Trump, delivering a speech at a pro-Israel event in Washington DC, expressed concerns about the American Jewish vote particularly those projected to support Democratic vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris who stands at 60 percent cut off.
Speaking before the Israeli American Council conference, Trump argued about ‘I’m sorry, but, all those who vote for a Democrat or Kamala worst … you should get your head checked’, the reference being to the potential disadvantageism of electing Harris as the President especially for Israel.
The president then went on saying that in case he does not win the next election then Israel will be under an existential threat from within… in two years predicting impending doom should he lose. In other words, he maintained, Israel, would be protected should I become president and that finally, rise of Naziism anti-Semitism is a growing problem that needed to be combated. He said goodbye to his friends at the Washington Hilton, to his campaign course and a major donor Miriam Adelson, who trump apologized for not overdoing the promo.
Antisemitisms quickly made headway onto the campuses and Trump also did not forget to speak about it, vowing that during his presidency universities that give shelter to antisemitic propaganda will be deprived of their accreditation as well as federal funding. This was against the background of the reports just out from the Anti-Defamation League ADL which recorded an increase of 477 percent in anti Israel incidents for the year.
The more general threats that he has been making, Trump also talked about the assassination attempts on his life last July, during his rally in Pennsylvania, during which he was supposedly preoccupying himself with an immigration chart during his presidency.
Many considered the speech as an attempt at appealing to the Jewish American electorate, however a poll conducted by the Jewish Democratic Council of America suggested that while most, some 72%, would favor Harris over Trump. Noteline is however that the Republican Jewish Coalition is on aggressive move to bring over Jewish votes in battleground states, rolling out a $10 million ad campaign portraying Harris as biased against Israel.
Outrage was the appropriate reaction for Donald Trump’s comments samesocial aspect. This because one pictures made a comment which stated ‘’ lmfao he thinks its an event FOR antisemitism’’ implying that he was shocked at the statement made by trump.
A user identifying as Jew said ‘I have been telling you Trump is an antisemite’. Another user called him out in disgust writing, ‘Trump is using Jews, threatening them, using israel. It’s disgusting’’.
In addition, Trump made mention of the anniversary of the Hamas terror attacks against Israel which also occurred on October 7 2001, explaining why he believes that the future of Israel rests in the outcome of the election in America, 2024. In this context, the current political situation associated with the Palestine-Israel conflict is characterized by the American desire to procure a lasting ceasefire with the two sides relinquishing hostility and engaging in reconciliation efforts.
