Karnataka Lokayukta police caught Hassan City Municipal Council Commissioner T.N. Narasimhamurthy and Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) K.R. Venkatesh taking a bribe from a contractor on January 9. Both were arrested.
The officials allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹1.5 lakh to clear a payment of ₹10.5 lakh to the contractor who did the cleaning work during the Hasanamba festival in Hassan. The contractor filed a complaint with the Lokayukta police.
A team of Lokayukta Inspectors Shilpa K. and Balu H.N. took the two officials into custody.
A few members of the CMC intervened and picked up an argument with the officials. They claimed that Venkatesh, AEE, is an honest official. However, the Lokayukta police maintained that they had conducted the procedure as per the rules.
Recently, the Lokayukta police caught Deputy Director of Public Instructions H.K. Pandu and office superintendent A.S. Venugopal Rao taking a bribe for the deputation of a teacher. Both officials have been remanded to judicial custody.
